Tech Spotlight: The Dual-Circuit Caliper That Dominated D1

24 Oct 2025

In professional drifting, there is no room for "maybe." When you rip the hydro e-brake for a high-speed, backward entry, you need instant, predictable lock-up. When you are left-foot braking to adjust your proximity in a tandem battle, you need a firm, consistent pedal.

What you don't need is a clunky, heavy, home-brew dual-caliper bracket that flexes under load and ruins your brake bias. That is a compromise. At TTSPORT, we don't do compromises.

This philosophy is why four major pro teams in the D1 Grand Prix—one of the world's premier drift series—rely on our dedicated drift-spec brake systems. We aren't just a sticker on the door; we are a core technical partner.

The Proof: A Clean Sweep at D1GP Chengdu

At the recent D1GP event in Chengdu, it was a total TTSPORT takeover. Our driver, Wang Qi of the DRS Drift Team, put on an absolute clinic. Running our pro-level DR4+2 system, he landed on the podium three times in a single event:

  • 🏆 1st Place: Solo Run Competition
  • 🥉 3rd Place: Tandem Battle (Round 1)
  • 🥈 2nd Place: Tandem Battle (Round 2)

The Championship-Winning Tech

Wang Qi's car runs a setup we co-developed specifically for the rigors of D1 competition. This isn't a "street kit" painted a flashy color—it is a purpose-built weapon designed to solve the two biggest headaches in drifting: heat and packaging.

Front: DR6 6-Piston Caliper

Drifting generates immense front brake heat due to constant left-foot braking (LFB) used to manage weight transfer. The DR6 is a forged, high-rigidity 6-piston caliper designed with massive ventilation channels. It ensures the pedal stays rock-solid even after back-to-back tandem runs.

Rear: The Game-Changer (DR4+2 Dual-Circuit)

This is the ultimate solution to the "dual-caliper problem." The DR4+2 is a single, lightweight monoblock caliper with two completely independent hydraulic circuits.

  • 4 Pistons (Hydro E-Brake): Connected to your handbrake lever. Delivers instant, aggressive lock-up with minimal effort.
  • 2 Pistons (Foot Brake): Connected to your pedal. Allows for linear trail-braking and line correction.
  • ZERO Interference: Because the fluid circuits are isolated, ripping the handbrake has zero effect on your foot pedal. No kickback. No mush.
  • Weight Savings: You ditch the heavy, ugly "dual caliper bracket," significantly reducing unsprung weight for better suspension response.

The Driver's Verdict

"This TTSPORT system isn’t just 'strong'—it’s stable and precise. The rear caliper and hydro combo gives you so much control in extreme situations, letting you link transitions instantly. To be able to drift lap after lap in this heat and still have a clear, consistent pedal feel is just incredible."

Drifting Setup FAQ

1. Why is the DR4+2 better than a Dual Caliper Bracket?

Weight and Rigidity. Adding a bracket and a second caliper adds significant unsprung weight to the rear axle, which hurts suspension performance. Brackets also tend to flex, leading to a spongy pedal feel. The DR4+2 is a single, stiff monoblock unit that solves both issues.

2. What brake pads should I use for drifting?

For the Handbrake Circuit (4-piston), we recommend a high-friction, high-bite compound designed to lock instantly even when cold. For the Foot Brake Circuit (2-piston), we recommend a compound with more modulation (linear feel) to help you control the car's angle without upsetting the chassis.

3. Is this system bolt-on?

Yes. We manufacture custom mounting brackets for popular drift chassis (S-Chassis, 86/BRZ, BMW E36/46/90, etc.) to mount the DR4+2 directly to your knuckle, replacing the factory caliper.

Stop Hacking. Start Winning.

Your drift build deserves a professional, engineered solution—not a pile of "cobbled-together" parts. Equip your chassis with D1-proven technology.
