Mercedes-Benz C200 Big Brake Kit Upgrade / TTSPORT Classic 5440

by LinLynn 16 Jul 2026

The Mercedes-Benz C200's low-power tune makes 135kW at 5,500rpm and 300Nm from 1,200-4,000rpm — more torque, and available lower in the rev range, than the equivalent BMW 2.0T low-power engine. That's plenty of shove for a compact sedan, and it means the factory brakes are working harder than the spec sheet suggests. On this build we swapped in a TTSPORT Classic 5440 four-piston kit to give the C200 a pedal that matches its motor.

The upgrade package for this car was straightforward: a TT5440 four-piston caliper, a 330x28mm high-carbon heat-treated rotor, and TTSPORT stainless steel brake lines, all fitted behind the car's existing 17-inch wheels.

Why It Works

  • Two-piece forged aluminum construction, built under roughly 3,000 tons of forging pressure, gives the 5440 caliper body about 30% more rigidity than a typical cast caliper — less flex under load means less pedal travel before the pads bite.
  • Opposed four-piston clamping with genuine imported seals spreads clamping force evenly across the pad, improving pedal feedback and modulation over the stock single-piston setup.
  • The 330x28mm rotor is baked at 600°C and then held at temperature for 12 hours, a process meant to increase the disc's strength and wear resistance, addressing the warping that can occur under repeated hard braking.
  • The kit was matched to this C200's factory 17-inch wheels with no spacers required, keeping the geometry stock while adding braking hardware.

After the swap, the owner reported a firmer, more planted pedal, a noticeable jump in perceived friction, and noticeably less brake dust building up on the rotor face and wheel face.
