Mazda 3 Axela Big Brake Kit Upgrade / TTSPORT Classic 5440
The Mazda 3 Axela has always had a following in the modification scene, especially with owners chasing sharper stance and better stopping power to match its already-lively chassis. This build swaps the factory front brakes for a TTSPORT 5440 forged four-piston kit, paired with 343x28mm rotors and stainless steel lines — a straightforward OEM+ upgrade that doesn't touch wheel fitment.
China's Changan Mazda-built Axela carries over the 1.5L/2.0L plus 6AT drivetrain, and while outright output isn't its selling point, throttle response and chassis balance are strong for the class. That makes brake feel matter more than usual — a soft, long-travel stock pedal undercuts the car's handling in a way a bigger engine wouldn't fix. This particular car runs 18-inch wheels, which gave the owner plenty of room to move up to a proper four-piston setup.

The 5440 is built as a two-piece forged aluminum body with opposed four-piston layout — 38mm pistons up front, 41mm at the rear of the caliper — for roughly 49.1 cm² of combined piston area per side. That's a meaningful step up from a stock single- or twin-piston sliding caliper, which flexes under hard braking and lets pedal travel grow long before the car actually slows.
Why It Works
- A forged, radially mounted caliper body flexes less than a stock sliding caliper, so pedal input translates directly into clamp force instead of getting absorbed by the caliper structure.
- The 343x28mm rotor adds swept area and thermal mass over the factory disc, giving the system more capacity to absorb and shed heat before fade sets in.
- With a 17-inch minimum wheel spec and a 86mm spoke clearance requirement, the 5440 was designed to sit behind common OEM wheel sizes — no spacers needed on this 18-inch Axela.
- Stainless steel lines resist the swelling that rubber hoses experience under heat and pressure, keeping pedal feel consistent lap after lap or stop after stop.
