GAC GS5 Big Brake Kit Upgrade / TTSPORT Classic 5440

by LinLynn 16 Jul 2026

The Trumpchi GS5 is GAC's mid-size crossover, built on a chassis tuned with European input and rated five stars in C-NCAP testing — but the factory brake package on this 18-inch-wheel example still had the soft, long-travel pedal typical of a stock SUV setup. The owner swapped in a TTSPORT Classic 5440 four-piston big brake kit up front, paired with 330x28mm high-carbon heat-treated rotors and TTSPORT stainless steel lines, to get a firmer pedal and more consistent stopping power without touching the wheels.

The red 5440 caliper fills out the wheel opening noticeably compared to the stock unit, and the larger 330mm rotor leaves less empty space visible through the spokes — a straightforward visual and functional upgrade on an 18-inch wheel.

Why It Works

The 5440's two-piece forged aluminum body resists flex under hard pedal pressure, which is what a mushy stock caliper loses to first — that rigidity is what firms up the pedal. Four pistons (38mm x2, 41mm x2) spread 49.1 cm² of clamping area across the pad, giving more even pad contact than a smaller factory single- or twin-piston setup. The slotted rotor face and angled vane design in the 330x28mm rotor keep the rotor breathing under repeated braking, which helps push heat out instead of letting it build up in the pad and fluid.

  • Forged two-piece caliper body cuts flex versus a stock floating caliper, translating pedal input directly into clamping force.
  • 49.1 cm² of combined piston area spreads clamping force more evenly across the pad surface.
  • With 86mm of minimum spoke clearance, the kit was confirmed to fit behind the GS5's existing 18-inch wheels using a vehicle-specific radial-mount bracket — no spacers.
